I just bought a new air pump for my 29 gallon and now i have a ton of bubbles on the surface. I've tried turning the pressure down but it's down to the lowest setting. I recently treated my tank for fungus and fin rot, could this have something to do with the bubbles?

ps...while we are on the topic of fungus, I keep getting it and i'm good about water changes and filter changes. what am I doing wrong?

It's probably just from the chemicals from the meds, once they are taken out it should be fine. Have you tested your water for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. In a healthy tank you should have no ammonia or nitrite and around 10-20 nitrate. Anything else and your water could why your fish keep getting fungus.

When you say filter changes does that mean you are throwing out and changing the cartridge, if so stop. Almost all your beneficial bacteria that keeps your tank cycled and safe live on those cartridges, what I do and a lot of other tank owners do is just rinse them off in the water that you take out when you do a water change. Even rinsing them under the tap is bad, the chlorine kills the bacteria too. Not only will this save you some cash but it will be better for your tank.

I recently bought a 5 gallon strength air pump for my 10 gallon tank and it too had air bubbles on the surface. This problem went away after about 5 days. I think it just had something to do with getting set up and the quality of the water and any kind of chemical you may have used in the water recently. It should go away in a few days, mine did.

You may have fin - nipper (a fish that keeps nipping others fins). The best tratement I can remember would be to wtch your fish closely, look out for ragged fins and are the fish avoiding a certain fish? If so you may have found the nipper. As for the bubbles: it may the treatment you've been using or as you suspect the airpump. Usually these things are sorted out by a process of elimination. Leave the airpump off for a day. Are ther bubbles on the surface? Or do a water change and leave the pump running and see what happens.

There probably isnt a problem with the bubbles, maybe the water is very O2 saturated. I'm not really sure. As for the fin rot my fish were having some problems and we turned the tank up very very warm and they all got better. Just watch and make sure they dont get stressed in the warm water.

I suspect that the pump is messed up. If all the pumps you've used are going bad, it's either the tank or the fish. Take it to the place where you bought and ask them.
