I am 38 1/2 weeks pregnant with my first baby. At my last appointment I was 1cm dilated, 100% effaced and soft. I have been like this for 2 weeks now. I was told once you hit 100% effaced it wouldnt take long to dilate. Has anyone been like this? and for how long? My baby has already dropped and head down, the doc. can push on his head when he does an exam. Last time they thought I would go into labor in a couple of days and now it seems my contractions and everything have just completely calmed down and nothing is happening. Its funny because I went into preterm labor 2 times and they had to stop it and now that Im not taking anything nothing is happening. Anyway, what do you all think (I know your not doc. just want some experiences). Has anyone had this happen? Thanks for all your help!

You are very close, it could happen at any time. There is no exact time frame, when the doc says you are soft they mean your cervix is softening and thinning out.Getting itself ready for the head to come through. Does it almost feel like the head is about to come out when you walk? The fact that you are 1 cm dilated means it is starting to open. I was 2 cm dilated, 100% effaced, and soft for just shy of two weeks. Have you lost your mucus plug yet? Once that goes you are very close. It's coming soon, my advice is to rest up now while you can. You are in for the most awesome ride of your life. And at the end you will have an adorable little pumpkin to show for all the hard work. Good Luck.

I think you will have to be induced like me. I 've had false labor contractions twice and wasn't dilated at all. Today I went to the doctor being 39 weeks and I am 1 cm dilated and head is in position. Babies will come when it is time dont rush it you have a week and a half to go. I know it is rough be strong.

I can tell you what they did to me with my first, and I did to myself with my 3rd... Its kinda gross but worked for me.
If you or your husband reach up there you can scrap the membranes...kinda irritate them a little (you won't feel pain and it will not harm the baby). This may agitate it enough to put you into labor. You could also go for a walk... a long walk.
You should be seeing the doctor once a week at this point so if you haven't seen him in 2 weeks you should contact and make an appt. asap. Next visit if you have no baby maybe you can ask them to break your water.
Good Luck

when my mother-in-law was pregnant with my husband she was dilated 3 cm for two weeks. this is normal.

i just had my first baby 3 months ago and when i was 35 weeks i had to take brethine to stop my labor. but it stopped everything. i was ten days late when i went to the hospital for induction. i was on pitosin for 20 hours, but the baby still wouldn't come out. i had only dilated to 1 cm after 20 hrs. on the pit. drip. then my cervix started to swell and i had to have a c-section. so don't let it surprise you if you wind up having to have a c-section.

it was a complete surprise to me that i had to have one and this made it harder to deal with. i still have negative feelings about it and probably always will.

I was 2 cm. dialted for 2 weeks past my due date for my first son. The doctor usually won't induce unless the baby's under stress or you are past your due date. I know you are tired and worried, honey, but everything will be okay. Each baby comes in their own time. And each pregnancy is different. I just gave birth in February to my second son and that pregnancy was immensely different from the first. Everything gets very uncomfortable around this time, but just know that in no time at all your baby will be here. Are you prepared?

sometimes the baby is ready when the baby is ready. if you have dilated to 100% and the baby has dropped and the head is touchable, then i would think your doctor woulda gave you a inducer and taken the baby then. my lord you must be so uncomfortable right now, so sorry

i was dilated for 2cm fully efaced for 3 wks. It can come anytime now, just relax and enjoy the time you have now. It seemed when i decided to just enjoy my time the baby came days later.

Good luck Mommy
