Our school does it in 7th grade (only they call it "keyboarding").

Here in the lodi school district they'll teach kids a basic to type in elementry at some point but it'sin high school when they actually teach em to type so thier not lookin at the key board the whole time and so they can like type a million words per minute (exaggeration on the last part but u get the idea)!

Although my son went to a computer lab in kindergarten, all they did was play games, I guess to familiarize themselves with the keys. Now that he is in 2nd grade he actually has to write a small summary on the computer.

well I remember working with computers in elementary school, however I can't remember if I was actually typing, we may have just got familiar with the keyboard and mouse. I didnt start to learn how to really type in school until 9th grade, even though I knew how to type before that, that was the first class I took to speed it up and learn how to type faster and more adequete

In gr 2, 6 years ago, I took a typing course in my school, and it was for grades k to 4

My daughter could type a bit at age 2.
Uses the computer better than I do at 7.

At my school, in preschool (age 4) they learn games and finger positions. In kindergarten, they start typing. It seems early. I don't remember having any sort of real typing classes until I was a sophomore in high school.

They start them in kindergarten getting use to the computers, and then they play games that teach them how to type. At least they do at our school.

My school never taught us to type but in most middle and highschools you can take keyboarding.

i was taught to type at 25 words per minute in 3rd grade.
