The goal in Iraq as I remember when we attacked them was to remove the WMDs and the leaders and replace them. Well we have replaced the leaders with new leaders of our chooseing and are still looking for the WMDs best I can tell.
I don't guess it will ever be achieved because there never was any WMDs and Bush knew it.. So he changed it to install a democratic government and that has happened too quick so he had to change it to the war on terror so we could stay there longer. Then he sent in more troops and more and is trying to send in more. This is the setup for the attack on Iran.
So as soon as we find the WMD and kill all the terrorest and take out Iran we will it will end. He only has two years to do this in so get ready for some fast moves.

excellent question. that should have been asked before the war. now it is too late to ask for a "goal" --because what was the goal at the very beginning in no longer the same goal now and later. hope this explains the first part of your question.
now question number two -- when will it be achieved? this assumes there is some kind -- of end with a result. I disagree. It will end, yes but with no victory to either side -- the best we could hope for that it ends -- when the casualties on both sides -- make it intolerable and impossible to continue. In my view -- it will end when either side (or both sides) realizes -- that the "end does not justify the means". Hope it helps.

Have you ever read the book 1984?
well if not the totalitareian governtment is constantly at war with a contry (in our case iraq) and they put a face to the enemy (osoma) for the people of that country to hate and to support the government to defeat them. well the war is just a tool use to controll the people and to beable to channel the people's anger to the enemy and to allow the government to do things that should not be done happen because of their support in the government in the fight agaist the face that they have been conditioned to hate. well i dont hate the government and i am deffently not against President Bush but i thought that this just had a striking similarity to the book i am reading in my english class.

Well when Bush illegally invaded Iraq, the mission was supposedly to establish democracy. But he has flipped flopped so often on what the mission is, that I don't think he even knows anymore. I'm guessing it will remain a quagmire until we get the h-ell out of there.

1) Enslave all Arabs through warped US democratic process.
2) Put in place US run government.
3) Give US companies control of all natural resources.
4) Establish a strategic military stronghold in the middle east.
Correct me if i`m wrong. I`m not. i hope the Iraqi`s fight to the last man. Would`nt you?

Bush's definition of success in Iraq is just like Potter Stewart's definition of pornography--he'll know it when he sees it.
It's US foreign policy at its best...bust on in with your tanks and battalions, slaughter everyone in sight, and then figure out why the hell you came in the first place.
