sure, just ask the catholic church...pride, lust, gluttony, envy, slough, greed and anger...which are the fatal transgessions that limit spirital progress.
the are 7 heavenly virtues also which people don't talk about as much as the 7 deadly sins which are...hope, prudence, temperance, justice, fortitude, charity and faith....

Are the seven deadly sins real?
That depends on how you believe or what you do.
I feel that if the seven sins are real. I would already be condemmed to hell.
I also feel that they are not the seven deadly sins...but, the seven rages that all people feel in there lives.
Everyone has wanted to sit around and be jealous...does that mean that we are going to hell??
It doesn't matter anyway just die with a clean soul and you sins shall be washed away.

the notion of sin is getting esoteric. you want to be in good graces with god.
obv.
any of the 7 deadly sins are not positive ways to live your life and win good friends and positively influence people.
that should be enough to avoid them .. not needing any straight shot to hell to scare you silly.

maybe not real as in something to do with destiny and fate. but if you think about it practically, it is real.
for e.g.
lust: having too much sex with the wrong strangers = sexual diseases
sloth: not wanting to work etc, you starve to death
wrath: getting angry too often = rise in blood pressures
and so on..
