the dr finally called me back... since his temp is going down with meds i should not worry..i was told... i gave him a cool bath, hes been taking plenty of fluids..she said alternate tylenol and motrin every 2 hours since it is so high. she also said many people go to the er to quickly with a high fever..it is not necessary unless the child is convulsing.. this all is from my dr's mouth... so his temp is slowly going down and i do have a dr appt in the morning. thanks for all your suggestions. oh, and to the one who asked what i was doing on the comp when my kid is sick... asking for advice dimwit. someone may have an idea i didnt have... all the help i can get is helpful...and while you all were answering my question i was giving a cool bath, not staring at a computer... once again, thanks to all those who had helpful suggestions!

keep doing what you are doing , but also give a bath in lukewarm water. For about 30 mins. If the baby feels like playing in the water, this is good , if not then pour or squeeze water all over the body and head. This works for bringing fever down and will help the baby relax, and sleep better. Stay with the baby at all times while in the water. I know, I know, Duh, but had to include it.

Most fevers with viral illnesses range between 101° and 104° F (38.3° to 40° C) and last for 2 to 3 days. In general, the height of the fever doesn't relate to the seriousness of the illness. How sick your child acts is what counts. Fever causes no permanent harm until it reaches 107° F (41.7° C). Fortunately, the brain's thermostat keeps untreated fevers below this level.Although all children get fevers, only 4% develop a brief febrile convulsion. Since this type of seizure is generally harmless, it is not worth worrying about, especially if your child has had high fevers without seizures.

Children older than 2 months of age can be given any one of the acetaminophen products. Tylenol, Anacin-3, Liquiprin, Panadol, and Tempra all have the same dosage.

Remember that fever is helping your child fight the infection. Use drugs only if the fever is over 102° F (39° C) and preferably only if your child is also uncomfortable. Give the correct dosage for your child's age every 4 to 6 hours, but no more often.

One to two hours after they are given, these drugs will reduce the fever 2° to 3° F. Medicines do not bring the temperature down to normal unless the temperature was not very elevated before the medicine was given. Repeated dosage of the drugs will be necessary because the fever will go up and down until the illness runs its course. If your child is sleeping, don't awaken him for medicines.

I would give the baby a cool bath and make sure the temp doesn't get any higher. If it goes down with meds make sure to give a little early to keep it down, so it doesn't spike up. Water and the pedialyte is good. Make sure the fluids going in are more than the fluids coming out. It may be a 24 hr. bug. If it doesn't improve by tom. I would get to the Dr. If the temp. spikes up while on meds and after cool bath and washcloth get the baby to the ER. That fever is too high to stay that way....must keep it down even if the bath has to be repeated. As long as it responds to this just keep the baby comfortable and cool. Applying cool washcloth to forehead, temples, underarma , back and groin areas help keep temp down and baby feeling better. Is it teething? Good luck.

people freak out with kids i swear! calm down and take a breather. probably teething. that is not high fever. fever in a baby is not considered true fever until it is 102.0 or higher. well 101.8 but whatever. as long as your a keeping fluids in him he will be fine. however you take his or her temp you add .8 degrees and in the behind you take away .8 degrees. if he is still like this tomorrow then i would suggest taking him t the doctor if the fever is going away with meds then it isn't an infection. he will be fine you are doing all that you can. keep fluids in him like pedialyte, gatorade, sprite or seven up, juices. don't reccomend water it can make his stomach upset. if you have formula then it is ok to give it to him just not milk. not for sure on breast milk but i am sure you do. good luck and let me know how it goes and what was wrong if you don't mind! holly oh by the way you do not alternate every 2 hours, it is tylenol every 4 motrin every 6

Take this child to the ER. She is having something to cause the fever and could possibly need some antibiotics. You are aware that you should alternate every two hours. High fevers are ok in children but they can dehydrate alot faster than a grown up or adolecent. Get this child some medical attention.

Your baby could be teething or it could be the start of something viral such as an upper respiratory infection or an ear infection. A fever is the body's attempt to fight off infection of some sort. Since your baby isn't very old and the fever has been going on for over 24 hours, I think I would call the pediatrician and ask his or her advice as to what to do next. It might be nothing, but you don't want to let it develop into something more serious.

Having been in that project many cases, i ought to attend to artwork out my own ped. For toddler's convenience, i ought to take his clothing off now, enable him cool quite for approximately twenty minutes, then located him a lukewarm tub. that could help positioned across it down. If it nevertheless keeps to bypass up after that and yet yet another dose of motrin, then i ought to call my pediatrician and take him in earlier. To outstanding some shoppers; no you do not use tylenol and ibuprofen on the comparable time, you stack them- one each 3 hours. And no 103 stages isn't unusual at arranged on a small toddler- diverse them do have an inclination to get very extreme fevers with the slightest ingredient. Many pediatricians won't even see a sprint one till finally the temp is a minimum of 102.a million, commonly till finally that's over 103, because of this actuality. between one hundred.4- 103, you take care of fever as a convenience degree, over 103 you have the capacity to keep away from seizure and learn for available an infection.

Take your baby to the ER now. Of course medicine is going to bring down the fever, that is what it is supposed to do. But if your baby has a fever still after 24 hours you need to get him to a hospital. Your baby could be severily dehydrated by now.

Just go to the er now. If you don't have insurance or whatever, so what. Your baby could get worse and that is more important than a hospital bill to pay. JUST PLEASE GO NOW!!!!

Something is seriously wrong with your baby. He shouldn't be running a fever that high for that long. He possibly has an infection. Call your doctor's office and get on the phone with whoever is on-call. They should be able to direct you to where you can go, or what to do.
Take care of your little one.
