Of the 2500-3000 species of snakes distributed world-wide, about 500 are venomous.

well I could not give you a definite answer as there are 2 types of poisonous snakes. One on land and in the water..... In my opinion, see snakes are more poisonous....

i really wonder what prompted u to ask that question..but if u r an wild life lover like me ..ur welcome.Broadly speaking there r about 4000 known species of snakes discovered till date. Add to this the fact that its almost confirmed that there r countless other species man has yet to reach.

Luckily, only a small fraction of the snake species is venomous ..say abt 5%.Some of the most Venomous ones r like those of the cobra family,the krait,Russel vipers,the mambas to name a few.

Depends on where you're at. In my state Arkansas, we have water moccasins, copperheads, eastern and western diamond back rattlers, coral snakes, and pygmy rattlers. I don't see many of these around. Mostly non-posionous, banded water snakes, king snakes, black snakes, coach whips, blue racers, and garter snakes.

No one could know for sure since there might be undiscovered species in the rain forest or other sparsely explored regions.
