I just can't imagine having to live and try to protect my children in such circumstances, day after day after day. I guess one might begin to wish the Americans would go away so folks would settle down.

No thanks, I feel opressed enough right here in the USA.

I can't imagine what it would be like. The mortality rate is triple what it was before the war, and nearly every Iraqi has a relative that has been killed by the violence.

Maybe if the chickenhawks that make these go/no-go calls about war had to endure the circumstances of the Iraqi people, they would think twice about it before sending our troops on useless diversions while other REAL threats emerge.

Depends on the area. Some places are not that violent and life is "somewhat" peaceful b/c they don't have to worry about regular car bombings. Where the insurgency is taking hold, I assume it would be like living in a prison where everyday I would worry whether my trip to the market would be my last or whether one of my male relatives will be kidnapped tortured and killed by sectarian rebels. I really feel for the civilians in Iraq.

I just don't understand where your question -- and some of the answers lead us. The simple answer is "yes, it is difficult to live in Irak -- right now". End of that answer. But if you have in mind -- because of the presence of American and other troops, I respectfully and fully disagree. Now -- since your question is already formed -- it has that nuance you don't like -- the presence of the soldiers -- no one does like
military presence -- but in order to pass judgment on the situation "now" -- one has to compare it to what was it "then" -- a pure dictatorial regime under one man -- who can erase from the map -- 100,000 people and more without anyone taking him (i.e. of course Mr. Saddam -- the ex-president) to justice. Enough said -- it is painful -- more so when people don't read history, do not discuss with learned people -- don't interact and most of all don't see the pain and sacrifice that USA and other soldiers make as sacrifice so that "we" in the west can continue to live in freedom. I rest my case so should you.

It would be like living in the US, in about 10 years. Get used to it!

You think it is dangerous now ?
If the Americans left it would be three times as dangerous..
Besides that...
Would you be willing to surrender your freedom and live in
a fanatical religious dictatorship ?

better than 6 years ago? Some people there are happier. Not all of them of course. And I'm sure they'd be happier still if we left them the hell alone.

Well, it would more than likely be the same way.

(if you knew my family, you would totally understand that statement. Bombs are constant at family gatherings. . .)
