There is no best... The hackers would know how to get everyone if we all used the same setup. Then it would not be BEST anymore.
But here is what I use.
Norton Anti-virus
Zone Alarm - Firewall
SpyBot Search & Destroy - scans and protects the registry
Ad-aware - scans and deletes files.

As an all in one package or just anti-virus? I don't like all in one packages... so...

Most effective free anti-virus, either Active Virus Shield or Anti-Vir
Most effective firewall, Sygate Personal Firewall (free for home use only)
Most effective Spyware protection:
Windows Defender
Spybot
Adaware
Spyware Terminator
Spyware Blaster
(Yes all of them for complete protection)
Do a Yahoo search for any of those and you will get the download sites. Or, if the pain of keeping up with so many programs is too much for you, get a Mac, I know I am considering it.

you can get a more powerful antivirus to scan for virus, adware ,spyware and block spam email .
