It seems that the 60s models are a little smaller and the 71 and 72 are bigger.

i own a repair shop,and your exactly right they are bigger than the 60,s models,and they just kept on getting bigger after that they messed the cougar up good it used to be a nice sports car until they made it bigger,but now there improving some on the newer ones,but your right from 70 -on they got bigger,good luck i hope this help,s.

The biggest Cougar's were the 1977-79 and they don't look much different than the Ford LTD's, the Cougar's did get dramastically smaller in 1980, even the 1974-76 Cougar's were as big as the Chevrolet Monte Carlo/Chrysler Cordoba of the same era.

You answered your own question. They share a platform with the Mustang. When the Mustang changed, so did the Cougar.

the 69 is essentially the same. same chassis,wheelbase & body. but it has a different hood, grille & trim. 67/68 also are pretty similar. 71 up, totally different
