To know when your baby is ready for stage 2 baby food?

Stage 2 foods are just a tad bit thicker then stage 1. (not much though) Stage 2 also has a lot (not all but mostly) of mixed items. This is something you need to be aware of. By feeding your child "solo" foods (apples alone, bananas alone, squash...ect) if they have an allergic reaction you know what caused it. If you are mixing (such as mixed veggies, apples with apricots and whatever) it is harder to tell what your child is allergic to.
Once your little booger is handling stage 1 fine and has had most of the foods alone it is ok to start stage 2. Stage 2 is a bigger jar and you're little one will probably enjoy the mixing of foods.
Good luck!!

Once they tolerate stage 1 well, you can move onto stage 2. It's just a matter of when they can tolerate a more thicker baby food. My daughter was only on stage 1 for about a month and then we moved on.

American and Canadian Pediatric Society recommend you start feeding your baby at 6 months of age....their digestive systems have not matured yet to handle solid food....
and they don't need water or juice...if you can postpone that as well .......even better.
And try to give water before juice (and juice should always be diluted for as long as possible)

Age: Birth to 4 months------------
Feeding behavior
• Rooting reflex helps your baby turn toward a nipple to find nourishment
What to feed
• Breast milk or formula ONLY •
Your baby's digestive tract is still developing, which is why solid food is off limits for now.

From 4-6 months------------
Signs of readiness for solid food
Your baby probably won't do all these things — they're just clues to watch for.
• Can hold head up
• Sits well in highchair
• Makes chewing motions
• Shows significant weight gain (birth weight has doubled)
• Shows interest in food
• Can close mouth around a spoon
• Can move food from front to back of mouth
• Can move tongue back and forth, but is losing tendency to push food out with tongue
• Seems hungry after 8 to 10 feedings of breast milk or 40 oz. of formula in a day
• Is teething
What to feed
• Breast milk or formula, PLUS
• Semi-liquid iron-fortified rice cereal, THEN
• Other grain cereals like oats or barley

I'm at the same stage you are. I'm going to try the stage two foods, because my son is eating almost two jars of the number 1 food now.

When they do really well with stage one as far as eating and swallowing .... stage 2 is just thicker and there are more combinations than stage 1. Just as your Pediatrician

When they are hungry all the time, try to give them pablum mix it with the babies formula and make it very liquid, texture is something your baby will have to adapt to, may not like the feal of certain foods, always consult your gynacologist because if your baby was premature this may change things.

when they can eat with a tot spoon then they are ready for rougher foods. if they get most of their nutrition by bottle they are not ready yet.

start veggies first when they get the sweet stuff, forget about the peas and carrots.
