I've never heard of it either, but supposedly it means Boy-Love. I looked it up on Wikipedia.

Well I pronounce yaoi like yow-ee. I'm fairly sure that's correct. Yaoi can get explicit so don't google it unless you are prepared to see some dirty stuff.
I believe (but like you I'm not sure the exact definition) that yaoi is in anime when it's two men in a relationship (yuri is two women). I have no website links, but since a few of my friends draw manga/ anime and sometimes do the pictures of two boys kissing or something like that....
again, I don't know the exact definition but that should help a bit.

I personally like it in small doses, and only certain characters. But whether a person likes yaoi or not depends upon the person's preferences. It is pretty popular among girls and of course gay guys. Not sure where the actual word stems from, but I just know it is boy/boy love as a couple of other people have said. Anime and manga is the most common style used in yaoi, although it is not limited to it. A pretty good gallery to see both dirty and non-dirty stuff is the y!Galley. Just type "y!Gallery" in and hold onto your hat! I must warn you that it contains some pornographic material, but I think you can turn off the really explicit stuff.

I am a Yaoi fan... my friends and I love it and read it all the time...

Yaoi is pronounced "yow - oh - ee"

The basic definition is that yaoi is the name for stories in manga and Anime in which there is male x male relationships. Yaoi tends to be more "hardcore" than Shounen-ai which is more romantic and less sexual... and is called boy-love..

I would have to say that it is one of those things you either like or you don't... and after lookingat the Wiki... I would have to say it is a good link..

Many people have given quite the links that related to this yaoi stuff, but I'd like to explain it in my full understanding.

Yes, as what people said, yaoi (i'm not sure how to say this, but I think the pronunciation is "yah-oy"... something like that?) is related to boys' love... to roughly explain, it's similar to gay relationship. You must know what I mean, right... When it's about gay relationship, it has some sex scene between two males. And displayed. Fully. And it's not entirely love...

As for shounen-ai, it's a milder term to these boys' love, which means more like a kiss, hug, or the like. Even if they have sex, it was never or only partly-mentioned either in the manga or in the anime, we can't see them. In this, yeah, love is usually mentioned. (Think: "I... I love you!" *smooch*)

There are sites that give you the exact description of yaoi... in pictures. You'll understand someday.

You can go here for a good description of Yaoi. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/

Personally, I'm not a fan of Yaoi, but I'm not against them either. Yaoi just doesn't really interest me although shonen-ai is okay.

Yaoi is the term used to describe male-male relationships, which is commonly used in roleplay and other such things on the internet. Most commonly it involves anime characters, or characters with anime pictures. While Yaoi is male-male, Yuri is female-female.

I'm more of a yuri fanmyself, I wouldn't know too much about yaoi other than it usually has two dudes doing things. Oh look, 2 points.

Do you know the pronunciation guide for Japanese words? Yaoi is pronouced kinda like Yaw-oh-i putting it all together it sounds like yow-i with the i sounding like a "e"

Yaoi is strong boy-boy love. Shounen-ai is softer boy-boy love, like, kissing and cuddling.

wikipedia is a relatively accurate source for a exact definiteion.

Yaoi's yaoi. It's fine. I'm more into Shounen-ai. Btw: yaoi's boy/boy explicit, shounen-ai is more romance-y-ish
