The best way to do it is when they call, ask them to take you off their list for calling. My understanding is that they must comply, and not doing so is illegal.
The way we do it here in our house is use the caller ID. If they don't give a number, or we don't recognize the number or name, we don't answer. If they really need to speak to us, they will leave a message. Typically they don't, and we don't have to talk to them. Caller ID is a wonderful thing. . .

Ask them for money lol
Don't include your telephone number the next time you donate.
Each time they call you tell them NO and ask that they remove your number.

Get an unlisted number or cell phone. If you order anything, don't write down the phone number because it and your name are sold by most ordering companies.

Just be polite and firm. Say you have your own charities and if you gave to them, you'd be needing charity yourself, then say goodbye and hang up.
Or use your caller I.D., or your voice mail.
Don't feel guilty. Treat them as if they were telemarketers.

Harras them over the phone. They called you therefore you are under 1st amendment and no judge will convict you.
I LOVE to do that. But now I get recordings....****.

Just hang up or have fun with them by pranking them.
Change your number get it unlisted then guard it with your life.
Make sure you tell any credit companies that you deal with not to share your information.

Ask that your phone # be put on their "do not call" list. This is one they maintain, not the national one.
