From what I know of this war I can't find a good reason to support it. My question is do you support this war? Please list reasons.
I may not support the war but I can't stand people that put down the soldiers. This question is not about soldiers but about war.

Wow, I can't believe I just hit the submit button and already there are so many responses. For the responder that talked of the request for soccer gear. I think that was a wonderful idea and I hope you were able to gather a lot of donations. My son says he should be home by the 12th of Nov but will probably be sent back for a second round he just doesn't know when.

Just a little FYI.. I am very proud of my son. He always has been one to stand up for what he believes is right even if it meant standing agaisnt me.
It woudn't take much for the military to convince young gung-ho minds that what they are fighting for is right. But that doesn't make it so. As far as the retention rate... I would be willing to bet if proper studies were done we would find that most young people join because they feel as if they have nothing else to turn to. Look at the unemployment rate. There isn't much hope for our youngsters these days and the military offers promises of adventure and big bonuses, not to mention a college education, assuming they live long enough to benefit from it. I only wish I could have provided better for him so that he may have felt he had other oppurtunities.

I also feel the President used the emotions of the 911 attacks to support the war that initially really didn't have anything to do with the attacks (from what I know - I could be wrong). And believe me... I want to be wrong.

to hog b... you may be right about reaching for something believable. Like I have said, I am very proud of my son and always will be. I just don't want to be angry at the rest of the world (exagerating a little) because of this stupid war that takes his life (if it does) I just want to find something positive about it.

To yoube72... You can't refuse. When you join the military to defend our country you can't pick and choose which fight you want to support. You do as you are told or you spend many years in prison.
Why should he spend his life in prison for the ill judgement of others?

I do not support the war. War never solves anything. This so-called war on terror has only created more terrorists.
Someone dear to me serving in Iraq asked us to send him soccer gear for the kids in Iraq. His reasoning was that every kid he could befriend, would be one less terrorist.
_______________________________________
We send school supplies, soccer gear, stuff for the Iraqi soldiers and their families, and of course stuff for our soldiers.
______________________________________
In response to Richard C and the 50% retention rate. That is in large part due to the fact that our soldiers are fantastically committed to their brothers and feel a deep obligation to be at their sides. It doesn't necessarily indicate support for the war, but definitely indicates support for their brothers, our troops.

First, I think your son is an honorable person and that I hope he comes home safely. The odds that he will come back okay are very favorable. For the large deployment, a casualties are relatively low.
I totally support the soldiers and their families, and this is the main reason I do not support this war. When American lives are risked and lost, when large numbers of civilians anywhere are killed, it needs to be for a very important reason.
The soldiers are supporting a good cause, liberation of Iraq from the Ba'ath party and Saddam. But given the fact that we previously backed Saddam, and the fact that the reason given for the war changes every quarter, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that Bush's motives are all over the place. I do not trust our President as far as I could throw Air Force 1.
Hang in there, Mom, your boy will be home soon. The majority of Americans believe he is a hero, regardless of our political leader's misdeeds.

I think the war in Iraq was launched under false pretexts. The weapons of mass destruction were the Scud missiles; the national security issue was Israel, NOT the US, so in essence Bush lied to the American people about the reason for going into Iraq. The other problem is the so-called "experts" who advised Bush knew nothing at all, NOTHING! about Iraqi culture, religion, and society. They assumed that the Iraqis would embrace the US as a liberator and celebrate in the streets. That did not happen. Bush said major combat operations were over more than three years ago, but the insurgency was up and running on the very day he made that pronouncement and has continued unabated. Bush seems to think that just because he says something, that is enough to make it so.
We can only hope that the next President does not suffer from the same delusions as George Bush and is not so willing to dance to the pro-Zionist tune and will end this wasted effort once and for all. The killings and insurrection in Iraq has gone on long enough and will continue to go on as long as the US stupidly stays in Iraq trying to jam democracy down the throats of people who really do not want anything to do with it.
George Bush is a lunatic who will coninue to endanger the lives of soldiers like your son for as long as he is in power, for a final end result of practically nothing.

I don't support this war.
We went there for reasons that still haven't been established. More like the pick of the day on that topic.
Then we burnt up Iraq's good will with us.
-We packed a tank full of Iraqi children and pulled down a statue, without Iraqis asking us to do so. And we failed to stop the looting that followed.
-We sent neoconservative children with strong ties to various republicans to manage the rebuilding effort instead of experts, they outright failed(no medicine to hositals for months afterwards, delay of stock market, mismanagement of funds, etc). Many of the attacks on US soldiers probably happened because of this issue.
-Now we have an angry country that routine believes we gladly will shoot civilians and around 1 in 3 Iraqis are happy American soldiers are being attacked by the last study I've read.
In our country, the debt is climbing to the highest levels ever thanks to military spending. The value of the dollar, and our ability to work with other countries finacially will decline as the debt increases. The majority of the money the government is spending is barrowed from foriegn countries. We are more long term reliant on other countries than we have ever been thanks to Bush's short term economics.
There are so many things that have been done horribly. There is nothing good coming from this war. As long as that seems true, I cannot support the war.

Why not ask your son what he thinks? the army has a retention rate of over 50 per cent, yu wont hear that on CNN? so the boys must see a reason to stay and serve? could be they have the whole story and we get just the crumbs that the media wants to use for political reasons? I find it strange that the nutz[media, protestors, self proclaimed experts] that make the most noise have never had to stand the line! Semper Fi! God Bless Your son and bring him safe to home!

Firstly, I have respect for soldiers who think they are doing the right thing, and if your son does, then it shouldn't make a difference to whether his life is on the line for "nothing".
I think you must know the answer to your question, but are looking for straws to catch, on the offchance that someone comes up with a good reason that you can believe.
I hope things turn out ok, best wishes.

What your son is doing is very important.. Hopefully, they can stablize Iraq and get it under control... So many terrorist were being trained there and Sadam was encouraging suicide bombers to go into Israel. After 911, it appears something had to be done to try and stop the madness over there. We probably won't see the results in our generation but perhaps 5 generations from now our great great grandkids won't have to deal with terrorist and the threats of the middle east.. God Bless your Son

The war is wrong. So is the entire foreign policy of the Bush regime. But your son is doing a noble thing in his willingness to endanger himself to protect his people. The war doesn't have to be just for your son to be a brave and honorable young man.
