i own a repair shop,and it holds real close to 6 quarts i always add it until its full,best to add 4 to it,then start it for a minute or two,then shut it off,and check it,and fill it until its full this is the most accurate way of doing it,good luck i hope this help,s.

Usually all you need is the gasket, Use common sense, if the surface on the pan where the gasket sits looks too damaged, and NOT flat, Get a new pan. Pans are cheap, you can get one at a junk yard for probably 20 bucks. Or online. THe pan for my Mopar 318 was 80$ chromed.
