My 5 month old baby girl, Onica, born May 10, seems to be exceptionally smart. She is sitting up, has said several words, (Hi, MaMa) knows some sign language, (eat, more, mama, dada, dog, grandma, grandpa) and is pulling herself up on her hands and knees to try to get around. She is very sweet, and doesn't cry much. But she is given constant attention, with 4 adults in the home with her at all times, and no other children around. Is she smarter than other babies, or is she spoiled? And she is showing preferences for certain people at certain times, like bed time, nap time, etc. Is this normal?

Your baby sounds like she's smart. Congrats mom! Sounds like she's spoiled too but that's okay. That's the job of grandparents and a new mom.

I dont think she is smarter necessarily but maybe a little ahead of other children her age. My neice did a lot of things early but she didn't talk at 5 months. My 4 month old "sounds" like he says MaMa everytime he is ready for bed. And he definitely shows preference over certain people at different times so I think that is very normal for that age range. However I think a lot of your daughters advancements have to do with what she is being taught with constant attention like the sign language. Please dont' think I'm saying your child isn't smart but I dont know if I would call her 'smarter'.

However you never know. You might have the next eistein on your hands.

Good luck and congrats!

I don't think she is spoiled, babies need love. I do think the only thing you mentioned that was exceptional comparning to other babies is the actual words. I am a nanny and my baby said his first words at 15 months! But sign language is common if worked with and it is scientifically proven that children with more attention develop better.

Having "favorites" is common as well. My baby will love me to death until his mother walks in. The baby likes me about the same as the dad (I only work there 6-9 hrs a week so I am not like second mom in that respect)...

Congrats! Just spend the time and you will know as she devolops what her true potential is. Don't pressure her now she is still a bundle of joy!

I think she is advancing early because she is the only child around and she gets constant attention from all the adults in the house. There is nothing wrong with it and all of you should continue as long as you can. Getting attention from adults is what a lot of children growing up these days are lacking. Toys and TVs are seeming to raise those busy moms and dads. You should be proud of your little one. Maybe she is making room for another baby.

She is totally normal. Kids do things at different times, just remember that. I don't think she's smarter - and only you can know if she is spoiled, but at five months, I don't think any child can be. As for the preferences, she is just being a baby. Don't read so much into any of this! Just enjoy your baby every day - and put away your ruler!!!

well my son is 10 months old and the only thing he is not doing is crawling, he never did he just went straigh to his feet and walked. i think that is quite advanced also.
but of course i would think he is smarter than most because he is mine.

every child is different and they will develop certain things faster or slower than others, they start these things when they are ready.
my niece didnt start walking until 18 months but she was doing everything else a child her age was, that didnt make her slow or intellectual, she just wasnt ready for walking yet.

i think at 5 months old your daughter is doing alot more than babies her age. i don't know if she is spoiled or not so i cant answer that question..

She is very smart, my two boys were doing the same stuff at around the same age and they continue to amaze me. Just because she is smart is no reason to change how you think of her or treat her. Just love her and continue to give her the stimulation you have been and that she craves.
Congrats Mom

Showing preference is normal. the rest is not, but it is probably a combination of high intelligence and high attention. Congratulations on a great baby!

I bottlefed the two one in all my babies. i attempted breastfeeding, yet i do no longer understand a thank you to describe it, some women purely are not sturdy at it. It actually lead me to post partum melancholy because of the fact he does no longer take my breast. I knew that he might desire to even with the incontrovertible fact that, because of the fact my sister had purely had a toddler, and he latched directly to her as quickly as (i understand some human beings might desire to think of that's gross, yet what do you think of moist nurses did 1000's of years in the past whilst the actual mom could no longer produce milk?), yet i attempted for quite a few months without fulfillment. Anywho, I bottlefed the two one in all my babies, and subsequently have examine up on the food in formulation as against the breast. Now, this would possibly not be suggested for formulation some many years in the past, yet in recent times, formulation have a number of of food and supplementations in them that they are equivalent to that of breastmilk. Breastmilk is greater advantageous even with the undeniable fact that for quite a few motives... becasue of the antibodies that the mummy grants for the babies non-existant immune device interior the 1st few months of existence, and likewise pores and skin on pores and skin helps sell a babies progression. there are in all probability many different motives that i've got not pronounced, however the factor that i'm attempting to make is that a bottlefed toddler is getting lots of supplementations and food besides, you purely might desire to verify you maintain it faraway from any available well being hazards as a newborn toddler, and likewise be advantageous you have lots of pores and skin on pores and skin moments different then breastfeeding. For all you breastfeeding mothers available, shop on doing the right undertaking! For all you bottlefeeding mothers available, your babies thoughts isn't underdeveloped! by ability of how, my son is now 3 grade ranges above wide-unfold.
