There are all kinds of materials that you can use. First question is, what kind of a whip do you want to make? You can use rubber hose, Para Cord, inner tubes, surgical tubing, strips of vinyl, coil springs, bamboo, Willow tree branches, Birch tree branches, very thin and flexible metal strips, horse hair (not hide), human hair(does not work great) the spline used to hold screen in the channels of doors and windows(this stuff works great). The possibilities are endless. If you give me more information on what you want the whip for I can help you choose the best material and even suggest a method of construction. Good luck and I hope this helps.

You could purchase a rope--unravel it--and take a few strands and tie knots in the end of it. Do as many as you like--that make for a great whip. Depending on what you use it for; you could also use scarves.
