The 250 Rebel is a very good bike to start out on, and is darn fun to ride. I own one myself (I'm 5'10 and go about 275 lb). Yes I look like a circus clown on a scooter on it but I love the thing. The only thing is though she might gravitate towards a more powerful bike about one or two years after she starts riding the Rebel. As fun as it is, it's also just a bit under powered. Don't get me wrong, it will get her where she need to go, but once you start getting to around the 50mph range they start to top out, and don't leave much power for passing. Nor do they have the oomph to get out into highway traffic from a dead stop. But they are agile and light and the gearing overlaps. So if she shifts a gear too early, or a little too later it's no big deal the gearing overlap will make up on it. If she wants more of a bike then I'd move to the 650-800cc class. Shadows, Viragos, V-stars, and Boulevards. And don't forget, Honda isn't the only one in the 250 cruiser game. Yamaha and Kawasaki have one as well. Good Luck, and Safe Riding.

Anyone that owns a bike should invest in a good shop manual.Doing your own work is half the fun of owning a bike.
