would the "Go" be immediate, or would we need to wait for the President's approval to shoot him down? Would this be left up to Dick Cheney? How long would the decision process be allowed?

Dick Cheney would have to give the order, the President would be considered incapable of giving an order. I'd be suprised if it took more than 15mins for Cheney to know, and like 2 mins, for him to make the decision.
In the first place, it would be near impossible, to Hijack the plane. That thing probably has more security stuff in there then the White House, especially after 9/11

Since the President is inside.. then I'm pretty sure they won't even shoot it down. They will probably do like in the movies - try to open something up in the Air Force One and get the President out through a hole and to a safe plane.... and then shoot it down..lol Seriously, I think they would try to get him to a safe place as soon as possible.. they would try anything they could to get him out! Yet... if it was a commercial plane with US civilians... they would probably shoot it down quick... why?! hmmm.. isn't the Pres the one that gives the commands or am I wrong? (serious question) Isn't he the commander and chief or some s***?!
