You don't want the truth. Because deep down, in places you
don't talk about at parties, you want me on that wall. You
me there.
(boasting)
We use words like honor, code, loyalty...we use these words
as the backbone to a life spent defending something. You
use 'em as a punchline.
(beat)
I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself
to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very
freedom I provide, then questions the manner in which I
provide it. I'd prefer you just said thank you and went on
your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and
stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you
think you're entitled to.

Jack said it, but George Bush watches that movie before every press conference. It gets his juices flowing and makes his moronic ideology a reality until someone with a functional brain asks the first question. People of that ilk always think they have all the answers. History proves differently. Hitler dragged his country to the brink of destruction. What Jack and Georgie are saying with that quote is, "The end justifies the means." Anyone with only a ham sandwich between their ears knows that argument is dysfunctional. Oh some of our military may have taken the bull by the horns from time to time and felt that they could cut through the red tape and got the job done regardless of what was necessary to accomplish that mission. But democracies are lumbering giants that are very inefficient as governments go, since they require the input of so many representatives who are always arguing from their point of view. Then, we have to await a vote and the issue may not pass. Every once in a while you get a group who are going to hijack the process and streamline it. Making it so much more efficient. Stalin, Hitler, Castro, and Jack Nicholson in the that movie did just that. You know the type. He was challenging the rule of law that had finally caught up with him. This country is as great as it is because of the rule of law. Set it aside, even for a minute, to catch terrorists or arrest evildoers and the whole 200+ years that made it evolve and work as it does are worthless. It is only as good as its last use. The men who died on the sands of Iwo Jima or in the waters off Normandy Beach may as well have stayed home if we are going to pick and choose when to use the rule of law or not. It must be our central ethic. George acts like a B movie western Cowboy shootin' from the hip. Ever try and see how much you hit when you shoot from the hip? Not much! You just make a lot of noise and the ones taking aim usually win the gunfight when it is for real and not in a movie. But so much more is at stake. We are a world leader with a dangerous idiolog at the helm. His mistakes, and those of his advisors will make us so much less safe for the next fifty years That I dare say whether we can predict how bad it will ultimately be. Ben Franklin is alleged to have published in 1769 that, "If you give up some of your rights to gain some more security, you will end up with neither. Smart man that Franklin....

The quote you have so carefully written is from A Few Good Men Jack Nicholson's character is on the stand and says this to Tom Cruise character...I have not heard a more powerful or deeper moving speech since that movie..I believe it says it all all the things no one wants to hear but by God they want the freedoms it brings them..they don't want to know the sacrifices our men and women make so that this country can remain the land of the free and home of the brave..Looking at the answers you received I would say that they say it all..no one wants to know anything but many will give their opinions..opinions are like butt holes everyone has one doesn't mean we need to see em..

If he were speaking towards stupid people like you, who think he's so horrible because supposedly he's spying on you, even though you've done absolutely nothing that threatens the country, then it's George Bush, if not, Jack Nicholson all the way.

George Bush isn't clever enough to think of a speech like this, but his morals are pretty similar when it comes to protecting Americans.

It rang true in "A Few Good Men" and it rings true today. You have absolutely no idea what our troops are going through in Iraq; the media is not covering what's really going on.

Waste of screen space and band width. Not a serious question, or even a good rhetorical question.
