4:> check for your software

5:> go to audiograbber.com it is a good software rip almost all CD.

6:> if ROM is not reading any CD replace it with new one of Sony as it has good life of 4-5 years.

Are you sure that your computer is set up to convert to a MP3 player.. Just like you have to have a burner on your computer to copy songs,, you might have to have something that links MP3 players to yours. Make sure your using the correct type of music cd also.(if its a blank cd that you copied songs too) Some won't let you. What I would do is contact the company of the brand of computer you have. For instance if you have a Dell, Hewitt Packard, etc,,, go online to their webpage and ask them.. If anyone knows, they will!!! Doesn't hurt to try.. Good luck!!

This can happpen only whe the cd rom cable is loose or there is problen in OS.You can try to open the chassis (cabinet) and reset the data cable(IDE) and power cables on back of the drive.
then you can go in device manger and click on plus sign near the IDE/ATAPI controllres then right click on secondary IDE channel and uninstall it click yes for hardware removal.(This works if you have Win XP) and reboot back to desktop and see if that works.

In device manager, tic on DVD/CD-ROM Drives, then right tic on the offending drive and "uninstall" it and restart the computer. This reloads the drivers which may have become corrupt.
