Hydrogen ions (H+)

Acids are considered Hydrogen ions (H+), and the higher your hydrogen ion concentration the lower your PH. Co2 is also considered acidic in your body, so if you dont ventilate and let out CO2 by breathing you build up CO2 in your blood and become acidotic. HCO3 (bicarbonate) is considered basic, the opposite of acidic. Hope this helps..
