If your sound was working before then you could have lost a driver that makes your card or board play sound. If it has never worked then you may need to purchase a sound card that is compatible with your computer. Also viruses can make your sound not work. Installing software can cause problems of this nature. Many things can cause these kinds of problems.
First clean your system of excess junk and cookies that have built up over time. Run virus scans with updated virus software.
It probably is simple yet to most people it can be difficult to find your problem. Find a computer repair man that you know to be reliable and fair and he can have you up and running in minutes
with little expense.

Do you have Microsoft and recently did an upgrade? This is the only thing I can think of because someone did an upgrade on our laptop and I couldn't figure out why there was no sound-then the microsoft web page said the upgrade erased the sound and you had to download something else to get the sound back.

just go to best buy or even walmart and buy yourself a cheap pair of speakers that will plug right in to the side and you will have sound. Mine did the same thing with losing the sound and this is a great fix. and alot cheaper than paying for a tech to work on it.

it sounds like you have the wrong sound card. if you running windows based computer it has to be made for windows, if you running mac need to be made for mac computers. you can also go to www.microsoft.com and search the knowledge data base there.
