Being famous means easier sales, and the big labels are all about money. The average #1 album stays on the Billboard charts for less than two months - 20 years ago it wasn't unusual to see an album like Pink Floyd or Michael Jackson on the charts for years. Do you think you'll remember anything off of Paris Hilton's album in 6 months? It has nothing to do with kids poor taste in music - it's what the industry is doing for a buck.
I've heard some people say that it's a sign that some of the big labels are hurting for profits, and it's just a matter of time before the corporations who bought off a lot of the labels in the early 90s sell them off (which will hopefully pave the way for "real" musicians again)

Todays generation has got to be the only one that doesnt have any decent music to call their own. So many are listening to music that is before even my time bc there is nothing else out there worth listening to any more, and this is exactly why. Any son/daugher of anyone known for anything thinks they can be rock stars & how do these people even get music contracts. Its so totally about image rather than talent and that is what is ruining the music industry today.

Seems to me that MTV doesn't really care about REAL music talents anymore.
You could be a horrible singer, but give 'em enough money and boom, you're a rock star. :P
I don't think it's fair for real artists to barely make a record deal, when people like Brooke Hogan who doesn't even have the true talent or ambition make that deal with bribes and (maybe) pays MTV to put 'em on TRL.
Bleh...I dunno...That's how society's like though. We have to learn to deal :p

I agree and actually had a conversation about this a couple weeks ago. I feel bad for the kids of this generation. What type of music are they going to relate to when they are older...Paris Hilton?
Anyway, it just seems that as long as you've had plastic surgery, hair extensions, money and dress like a hooker then your a musician.
WHY?
