Because you are a person that is blunt and to the point. Idle conversation and small talk are the opposites of that. Just breath deep and try not to kill the people.

Nice weather we are having. What do you think? How have you been? I'm fine and you? Is everything alright with you? I have no complaints, and you? What kind of party napkins do you prefer? Don't you just love Tupperware? I am thinking of having fish for dinner. Can I bare my sole? This is a question only you can answer. I have little time for small talk as well. Avoid those who indulge in it.

It's not necessarily pleasant, but it's sometimes quite useful, when you have to break the ice, or fill conversation gaps, for instance. If you've managed to reach the point where you don't have to say anything to the other person and still you both feel comfortable, it means you can rejoice, you're over this phase! :)

Probably because small talk is impersonal and oftentimes meaningless. People who engage in small talk don't really care how the person is doing -they just ask because it passes the time away and it makes them look friendly in the same sense.

SAME REASON I DO , BECAUSE MOST IDLE CONVERSATION AND SMALL TALK DEAL WITH SOMEONE ( WHINING ) ABOUT THEIR PROBLEMS, LIKE WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH OF OUR OWN , WE WANT TO LISTEN TO THEIRS " PLEASE " GET A LIFE!!
