well so long as you and your girlfriend know it's not true then why bother. That person is a loser anyways.
I think your girlfriend should stop talking to that person immediately, and stand up for you. You can resolve conflicts with out fighting. like try and make them feel like idiots. there is no violence involved in that and you can really do some ego damage.

You and your girlfriend should sit down together with this person and let them know that neither one of you appreciate the way that they are trying to cause problems in your relationship. You can be nice and matter of fact, you don't have to fight or yell or even argue - just lay out the facts and ask them to stop what they are doing. It will be more powerful if you and your girl are there at the same time so they can see that you both know it's a lie.

Both you and your girlfriend have a heart to heart talk with him. Tell him you do not appreciate his accusations and to cut it out. Both you and your girlfriend stand together as two are stronger than one. Let him know in no uncertain terms that you both are united together and will no longer accept his "kidding."
He sounds like he may be secretly jealous of you having a girlfriend, if he doesn't have one. You may want to spend some time with him if you were friends with him before your girlfriend came along. He may feel left out and long for the friendship you both once had.

Get rid of the "friend." If you and your girlfriend know that he is telling lies, what is there to worry about?
My best friend just had the same situation happen, the guy wanted her to be his girlfriend and thought that by sabotaging their relationship he would have her.

Ignore him when he tells your girlfriend that you are cheating or go along with it. He will get the picture if he realizes it has no effect anymore

So stop being "friends" with this person. Just stop talking to him and be too busy to hang out with him.

as long as he knows you both know it isn't true try not to let him worry you over it; harder to ignore if he gets in your face-is this at school? know it's not cool to snitch, but a coach or staff member needs to be aware of his harassment
