I had an ultrasound at a little over 15 weeks and the tech said it was a boy. The parts were there very obvious on the pics. However I just went back and had another ultrasound at little over 18 weeks and the tech couldn't visualize anything to determine the baby's sex because the baby had it's legs all drawn up and the tech said she couldn't even guess. Do you think it's safe to say it's a boy since the 1st scan showed all the parts?

My friend had her ultrasound recorded.... I saw the recording and I saw the penis.... they even named him.

It was a girl.

Lesson - never jump the gun on these things. It's 50/50 either way.

15 weeks is about 3 weeks longer than need be to determine the sex of a baby. How about this;
Accept the fact the pregnancy and birth of a child hold NO absolute certainties.
You aren't sure what the baby is.
Neither is the ultra sound tech.
Nobody is 100% sure.
Too bad about all the shopping that needs to be done, but let me tell you this for sure. The baby doesn't care what color clothes it has, what color room it has, nothing. It only needs your love, and there is plenty of time to buy after the baby is born.
You'll catch up, but once you do, there'll be something else to do.
Good Luck.
By the way, it doesn't matter. Just hope for healthy. If you do not even get that, then hope for the strength to handle whatever comesyuor way. You need only to love the baby, and the rest comes naturally.

I wouldn't go crazy with the pink yet, but it looks like a girl. Don't' get your hopes yet until a later ultrasound though. I was told at 17 weeks I was having a boy and had a girl! But when I was 15 weeks with this one they told me girl and at my 28 week appt I got an ultrasound and had 3 people tell me it's definitely a girl... we'll see. I've gone crazy in pink now... Hope i don't' have to send dad shopping while I'm in the hospital.

I never think it's 100% safe until the kid is out and you look between the legs. My friend was told 5 times "it's a girl" and well...out came a boy. So, really, don't put too much stock in that 15 week ultrasound. Maybe you can get another one down the road that will help you as well.

Determining the sex by ultrasound is not 100% accurate..... however, if my doc doc told me it had a penis, I would get excited and assume it was going to be a boy come delivery day (but I get excited and jump the gun like that frequently). You will probably have another ultrasound and maybe they can look then. For my 1st U.S, the little heathen had its legs crossed! I have another on Friday, hopefully I will find out then!

the only "true" way to determine the sex is by an amniocentises (sp?) I had an ultrasound at 10 weeks and the tech said it was a boy and it was, but there is always room for error. If you really want to know, ask your OB/GYN for an amnio test

At this point a baby boy's testicles haven't descended yet, so you can't be 100% sure. You would look for something that looks like a turtle. Don't buy blue just yet!
