I bought a sterling silver ring, and i does have 925 engraved on the inside. I have been wearing it for a few weeks and not long after wearing it, I noticed my finger was getting darker where the ring was. Now I can tell that it is a dark green on my finger where the ring was. However, the ring looks the same, shiny and silver. Not a speck of green. THE RING IS NOT GREEN, MY FINGER IS. Why?

I could care less that there is a small dark ring around my finger, or that the ring is not Sterling Silver. I love the ring and I'm not going to take it back. I am more sure that the ring IS infact sterling silver and that it is a chemical reaction. The green is covered up by the ring anyway.

My body reacts to sterling silver by turning green. It has been like that for YEARS.
I can only wear gold or platinum.

The same thing happens to my mom, and most of my cousins. It's probably just an allergic reaction. I guess sterling silver just doesn't work for your skin. My cuzins have to wear a specific kind of jewelry...they have to wear sterling silver. Everybody's different.

Some people react that way to metal.

Has your silver jewelry ever left greenish or black marks on your skin? It's happened to most of us at least once or twice, and even though some people are allergic to certain materials, most staining isn't caused by an allergy--it's a reaction between our skin and the metals used in jewelry, especially when the jewelry touches areas that perspire.

Here is an article that explains this reaction

Devin...........your ring is not sterling silver!! Make yourself a cup of tea, gather up your receipt and take the ring back. Too bad here in America we don;t have a mandatory "stamp" that certifies that a "silver" ring is actually sterling. I've been a sterling lover for 30 years.....you've got to be careful where you purchase your sterling.

Too much acid in your diet will cause your ring fingers to turn green - especially coffee

Either your silver is not sterling or you may be allergic.

It could be two things.
1) a chemical reaction (allergy) between the silver and the skin.
2) a cheap imitation, with .925 stamped on it.
