Up north Man Utd have been the most hated team for decades, even in the 70's and 80's when Liverpool were winning everything Man Utd were the most hated team.

The reason is their fans, it is nothing to do with the football they play. Their fans are the most arrogant in the world and always have been, that is why they are hated most.

Their arrogance in the 70's and 80's prompted a joke, based on the fact that every May when Utd hadn't won the title, their fans used to say "Never mind we'll win it next year", but they never did.

The joke was "What were Nelson Mandela's first words when he got released from prison?" - "Have Man Utd won the league yet".

In the 90's they had something to shout about, but no matter how good or bad their team does, the fans' total arrogance still remains.

Chelsea are hated mostly because Mourinho came in, could spend what he wanted and this gave them instant success. What some people fail to recognize is Man Utd did the same.

Ferguson joined Utd in 1986 and by 1989 things were looking bleak for him. The British record transfer fee at that time was about £2 million. Ferguson went and bought 7 or 8 players in excess of £2 million, its just Utd didn't get instant success. It took them about 3 or 4 years to gel as a team.

Hate is a bit of a strong word, but the most disliked team over recent years is Man U, and I would still consider that to be the case today. However the most dislike-O-meter for managers has definately swung away from Mssrs Fergie & Wenger, and has almost gone of the scale in favour of the whinging little git at Chelsea. In my neutral (Crewe Alex) opinion both challenges by Reading appeared to be fair. So why an inquiry?

I gotsta say Chelsea cause they are spending a whole lot of money on the team. I believe that their payroll is higher than the New York Yankees payroll. Plus, in the Fifa video game I do better when I am Manchester United.

Chelsea offcource because they have spent what 50 million plus pounds with losses of 220 million euros.Man Utd never spent that much.Chelsea are now showing off their money by Jose Mourino making statements on the match between reading and chelsea.
They have tried to take players from youth acedemies of different clubs.

Definitely Chelsea. I just don't like there manager, Mourinho. He really pisses me off with everything he says. I do feel sorry for their goal keepers and hope they get better! They were nastyy blows to the head, especially Cech! But I don't think the Reading players did it on purpose.

Plus, Man Utd is my team! Has been for a long time!! Whoot! They won today XD

no matter happens in the next hundred years, man utd will always be the most hated team ever. Its not because they refuse to accept that the 25 years before their first premiership title exist cause they didnt win a title in that time, or that they used to dominate the premiership, its cause of there fans, ok they may be the best supported side in england but ten only ten percent of the people in england that claim to support them go to there matches, no matter how many games you watch on the tv and how many shirts you buy you do not support them you are merely a fan just somebody who likes them and thats it, and having 100s of people in china wear your shirt does not mean a thing and neither do there claims to be the biggest team in the world, they have about 80,000 supporters and thats it,
