I will be attending a wedding that starts at 6pm, and I am thinking of wearing a dress that goes down to the calf. It is black lace with red underneath, and has some sparkle to it(especially under the light). The invitation says semi formal.

I think it sounds perfect. However, I'm a little effie about the sparkles. As long as it's not too much shimmer, you should be fine. Search semi-formal dresses in yahoo & there are all kinds of websites to give you ideas & compare your dress to what they are calling semi-formal. Have fun!

Sorry tho red can be star stock, the semi-generally is in relation to
the event. Semi-formal questions like this HAVE to be asked in
the instance YOU believe the dress will be nice. Ask the reception giver.
The general color rule is grey, black, striped, white, tan, lite shade,
and dress combination green, tan, lama, berry and white. Berry is
a color of stawberry that is allowable in clubs with written rules. Also
plum is generally accepted at semi formal club sites. Another rule
measured says if color is less then 15% visible is allowed. The black color
is usually not for a dress, though you can see if its visibles are too bold.

lol at the other two ppl. Semi formal= look nice. Like church wear. No jeans! Think of it as if you were the manager at an office. A nice clean look. Slacks? NO DENIM! And formal is more dressy. It can range from a upscale party outfit to prom-ish attire. Gowns and Tuxes are nice!

That sounds perfect. The next level up is formal, and that would be ballgown types.
I am wearing something similar to a wedding this week.

You should probably be okay. Typically, evening weddings lean more on the formal side. So, you probably won't be the only one wearing sparkles/sequins.

Maybe something you would wear to church. As long as it doesn't out shine the bride. It is her big day!
