What happened to Art Bell?

I have heard two stories:

First) Art Bell was convicted of "Child Molestation."

Second) Art Bell fled the United States to the Philipines after his wifes' death because he became a prime suspect in her death and married a 21 year old woman to become a "Philipino Citizen."

If I am not mistaken, there is NO extradition to the United States in the Philipines.

i do not believe either one of those. i was a long time listener of art bell and he was always a recluse and mysterious person. mostly because he had to be, some of the things he discussed on his show didnt make the government too happy but kudos to him for being willing to expose the truth about things. there were times when he received death threats due to the nature of some of his shows. trust me there were many people who wouldve liked to see him "disappear" if you will. so it makes sense that after he retired, thats exactly what he did, except on his terms. which is exactly how he liked things to be. he was too good and moral of a man to pull any of the stuff you are hearing, so dont believe it.

Nope, Art Bell has never been convicted, or even charged with child molesting at any time in his life. At one time he ran a dating agency and was investigated about video sharing among it's members but in no way was Art found to be suspected of any wrong doing (Washington Post Article report). When I heard Art had left the country I assumed it was somehow connected with the Heavens Gate Mass Suicide. The Cult were reported to be obsessive fans of Art and Art ran a sensational show about the Hale Bop Comet, the Cult later killed themselves with thoughts about the Comet said to be prompting the suicide. Clearly Art was not suspected of being in any way contributing to the event.
