People say that we should have sent fighter planes up. Yeah lets shoot down planes with 100's of people on them. Great idea! If he would have ordered that then people would be saying that he shot down the planes and murder all of those people. So tell me what you think he should have done when he heard about the first attack. Was there much that he could have done?

well im tired of hearing lip about the book. The man, in order to prevent mass panic and histeria, continued to read the book to the kids, afterwards he would see what was up. He probubly thought, much like everyone else, that it was an accident. There was nothing more bush could have done, he is a great man, quite worthy of being named a great president.

Bush did not have many options. The United States was simply not prepared for a terrorist attack on its own soil. This is a sad commentary given the pre-9/11 warnings that subsequent investigations have uncovered.

At the time of the 9/11 attacks, there were only 16 combat ready fighter jets in the entire country! If the passengers had not reacted in Pennsylvania, that flight would have hit its intended target also.

And contrary to what some people might infer, you cannot blame this situation on Bush - the United States military had simply been standing down since the end of the cold war.

We will not be so ill prepared should such an attack take place in the future.

Think about what you are saying. Just because a fighter jet is sent to a plane does not mean that the plane will be shot down. if a plane is going to hit a building or the pentagon that means that the passengers as well as civilians on the ground are going to die. Secondly, it was not only up to Bush. Weeks before 9/11 NORAD authority to authorize shootdowns. Right before 9/11 the authorization had to go through Cheney, Rumsfeld or Bush. So, why in the world would you not sent fighter planes up when it is a common and mandatory practice to do so?

I would have prefered the plane had not been run in the buildings in
the first place.
All the so called terrorist had military school training or FBI contacts
are were identified as agents running drills for plane protection.
If you do not know the Federal Government has a history of entrapment and setting up people into situations they do not realize they are in. Is it a coincidence that the 757 was one of a few planes
capable of being flown by remote control and taken over while in the
air. I would like you to get into a Toyota Prius and see if you can drive it the first time without knowledge. Tell me that all the cock
pits were taken over by arabs and former marines and air force
flyers who were captians of these planes let them do it.

President Bush did exactly what he should have done. He didn't run out of the elementary school where he was visiting, so as not to alarm the children. This fact is wasted on the democrats. He started to gather as much information as he could before reacting, unlike his predecessor. On Air Force One, the President had access to the VP, Cabinet Secretaries, Joint Chiefs and any other advisers. The Secret Service and Military Escorts are tasked with keeping the President safe. That is why AF1 kept changing directions until the President ordered them to take him to Washington. Another fact that is conveniently skewed by the Demo-crybabies.
Many of those that currently claim to know exactly what should have been done, " have the luxury of knowing what happened". At the actual time of the events, they probably had to change their shorts, after they finished sucking their thumbs, while they waited for a plane to hit their house.
As for what Gore would have done if he were the president. He would have called Bill for guidance only to be put on hold until Bill was finished with "personal business".

Those fighters already have standing permission to shoot down planes in such conditions. Bush wouldn't have given the order, some general watching the situation would have made the decision.

A better questions is why didn't the fighter deploy to monitor and track such planes when they go so far off course. They had standing orders to do that as well at the request of operators at airports.

What libs do is attack for not having hindsight..You can never say we could have done more without knowing what was going to happen. The best thing to do now is what we are doing. Changing the middle east is the best way. Libs will say Iraq is wrong but after 9/11 they were saying it was right. The middle east was a breeding ground and the only thing that will stop it is change...What in actuality would have stopped it was when Clinton was in office he would have PRIMITIVELY done something seeing how OBL done it before on a smaller scale..Some might not agree on the war and how it is being handled but just simply going to one country and killing a few terrorists is a band aid and unless we have middle east allies its just another Clinton failure...

And as far as someone saying sit there like on a vidoe??? wtf should he do? run out in the street with his hair on fire like a crying liberal? He has to wait for secret service to get reddy and if its a attack he cant just loose it in front of children...That is the most idiotic thing i seen come out of people...He just sat there....I guess he should have taken out the old machine gun and ran around like Rambo...Its not like he could do anything other than wait for news and the all clear to get on a plane...

Boy the libs are having a field day with this one.As far as Osama is concerned. We did not know it was him at the time.I wont take the time to answer the conspiracy nuts. SHOW me the proof, then maybe I will listen.I thought he did what anyone else in his place would have done . He followed what the secret service told him to do.Perhaps the libs would have preferred he declare martial law & lock up everyone on the FBI s list of subversives in this country. A lot of the libs would still be in jail.We did that during WW2. But we had a Democratic President then so that was alright.

Well he could have held the Bin Laden family for questioning seeing as they were in the U.S. at the time instead of flying them out of the country.
If you want a serious answer try reading "the new pearl harbour" by Griffin.
He could have had an inquiry commission called within a few days instead of waiting 411 days.
He could have had ALL (read my lips ...ALL ) the steel examined from the towers instaed of having it sold to Baosteel in China for $120 a ton.(current market value at the time was$160 ton)
He could have gone after Bin Laden immediately after 9/11 instead of waiting a month.
He could have released the Pentagon videos to public viewing instead of seizing them and not letting anyone see them.
I can add lots more if you wish

He should have immediately left the classroom full of children rather than continuing to read a story. He should have hightailed it back to Washington and been in communication with the proper people about what was going on. I don't think downing the planes was a good idea as you outlined above. Further on from that, he should have kept his eyes on the prize (binLaden) and stayed out of Iraq. We had no business going there.
