There was not fire. The pan & bacon were immediately removed. But the house still smells (sort of like popcorn in a microwave--can't get rid of it).

fill a couple pie pans or cake plates with about 1/2" of white vinegar. place one or two in various places. within 12 hours they will absorb the smell. if you have drapes that have gotten the burn smell in them be sure to put one dish right by them.

also works well after you've had a fish fry and you need to get the smell of that out of the house - i put the pans out right after dinner, by morning the smell is completely gone.

I read in Hints By Heloise that you can cut an onion in half, set it out in a room, and it will absorb the smell of fresh paint. I would think that it would work for any smell. Other than that, open the windows and if you have a fan, turn it on and face it where it will suck in the smell and blow it out toward the window.
