Yeah its as simple as "pie"
The coach is MARTY SCHOTTENHEIMER!
Go look up his record with the KC Chiefs!
He'll always play a team just well enough to get it totally humiliated in the playoffs!
(The Chargers will win a Superbowl sometime AFTER they get rid of Schottenheimer and not ONE SECOND before........)
(and watch for the Brees decision to start looking like a REALLY ugly move before the season ends.........)

Bad draft choices have hurt them in the past. But they have a legitimate shot this year, in the past when they've made it to the playoffs, there has been several teams that were just plain better than them. This year, there really isn't a team in the nfl that the Chargers can't outplay. Getting rid of Brees is actually turning out to be a very good choice for the Chargers. Rivers is quickly turning into a very good quarterback, and with the physical tools and talent that he has, he will without a doubt be a much better QB than Brees ever will be. Also the Chargers have locked up all their key players for the next several years, and have alot of salary cap room, so look for the Chargers to be contenders for at least the next few years.
Don J: It never ceases to amaze me how many times I've seen you bad mouth teams that you don't know anything about. You obviously don't remember how bad Brees was his first few years in the league. In fact, Brees really only started playing well two years ago. Rivers is in his fifth start, and already has the number two passer rating in the nfl, the kid is completing almost 70% of his passes, and if you'd actually watch the games instead of just randomly bad mouthing teams, you'd know that he is making smart decisions with the ball, he's got a rocket arm, he's accurate, and mobile. Rivers will be the better QB, that's a fact. Even if Rivers doesn't continue to put up the kind of numbers he is currently putting up (which by the way, are better than Brees' numbers), there is no way to tell if he's a mistake until you give him a few years in the league. Until then all you can go by is who has more potential (Rivers hands down), and who is playing better right now (Rivers).

Location, location, location. I honestly believe this is a huge contributing factor. The weather is too nice (players tend to relax and become complacent instead of just working out and playing hard). Also, they always have to adjust to long travel any time they play an away game, especially in the playoffs since they never have home field advantage, and the weather in other cities usually sucks!! Snow, ice, and freezing cold. Not good when you're a warm weather team!
Also, no dominant QB (historically), and they are a team that has some individual stars like LT but never has the great depth or great defenses of a Baltimore or Chicago, or even Tampa Bay the year they won the Super Bowl. Flukey luck has never helped. And they've never really had a great coach or front office to lead them to the promised land. In fact, many times in the last 20 years they've been questionable or plain ol' bad.
Plus the NFC dominated the AFC for all those years which pretty much ensured they would never win - along with Buffalo, Miami, Denver, Raiders etc.

Hell yes they will win. They better cause its super bowl or a wasted season this year. The patriots are actually the media favorite still but if the chargers are healthy they are dangerous and Rivers was great in the playoffs last year and if Eli's horrible skills can get a ring with a whole lot of picks I don't see why Rivers can't easily lead the chargers to the promise land. They have to many weapons on all 3 sides of the ball except I don't like Kaeding cause he is a choke kicker when it comes to being clutch. Weddle is our new safety and cromatie will make bigger strides and we get ou D line and O line back and the oline got and upgrade with newberry. The secondary got better also and Turner isn't a big loss. Also we don't have Marty coaching so we have no curse on us. For all those chargers haters 10-6 yeah right they don't look like the giants loser. Chargers versus cowboys in super bowl and Romo blows the game for the cowboys and LT gets his ring finally.

I'm a seahawks fan, and I truly believe we will be seeing the chargers in the Superbowl. I dont know if this is the year that you guys get a SB win, or not, but I will say my money is on you guys to make it.

Would you want to switch to the Raiders this year? Don't feel too bad, you got Merriman and LT...I am a Lions fan...hell I am a Cubs fan too and we have Detroit in the World Series here in Michigan, so I had to get on the bandwagon. Oh but we have the Pistons and Red Wings...but for football...it could be worse...oh wait U-M is undefeated...hmmm...

Well if their coach stops playing Marty-Ball he may be fine. As to the complaint about getting rid of Brees I think Rivers is doing fine this season.
