It kind of means motherly old lady like. It means someone who is fat sometimes. If is not a youthful thing. My mom used it this way with me. It is like the opposite of a young vibrant woman. It is an older woman that looks like she has had a ton of kids and is not very feminine anymore. She is not youthful. She is usually overweight and does not have much of a figure. This is not the example of an older woman that keeps well and is fit. There are many women out there who are older and have had children that do not look matronly. Anglas mom looks very matronly and when Jeffrey designed that sack dress it made her look even more matronly. If you looked at Heidi's mom she looked very stylish and not matonly even though she was older. I hope that helps.

I teen most likely would not look matoronly unless they were very overweight. They are the opposite end of the specturm of matoronly. Someone like the designer Alison on the show would be a good expaple of that she does not look matronly. While the designer who made the snow board designs who is very young is already starting to look matronly.

You can now go and search an online dictonary and get an actual definition and see if that helps now that I explained it to you more.

just type in free online dictonary into http://www.google.com
and you should find one Marian Webster is a good one and look the word up.

The word "matronly" comes from matros, meaning woman in greek. So, to say someone is matronly would generally mean "womanly"

Usually a matron is the grandmother of the family. She is "a married woman usually marked by dignified maturity or social distinction ." I guess that's only a bad thing in the fashion world.
