haha....your in a dog house.
all i know dude is this stuff eventually leaks, eather the sister says something or you get drunk one time and you blurt it out.
also the fact your guilt ridden means your probably gonna crack.
a way to salvage this and make it all work out may sound dodgy but hear me out.
start dating the sister, make it serious or appear to be.
might as well make it look as though you had feelings and you want yo date her so it doesnt look bad, better than a 'plugging' the sister in a one off.
as long as you date and she wasnt a side ****, it is salvageable
break up with the sister after a little while and make sure it ends good, thats the most important part. problem solved.
it will work if you mate accepts the dating side. he cant be that slow and not realsie sex is a part of dating....
cos if the sex thing leaks, hes gonna be more acceting cos is part of realtioships even though thats the last thing he ant to hear!
sound better than the sis being a **** buddy!

Stop trying to condole yourself and feel better for something that was done by you and was optional. Obviously you thought it was the right decision at the moment so don't go back on what you've done. It's too late.
You and your bestfriend should talk about it or forget it. What's to feel sorry for, you're all responsible and it's not like he's your parent.

If you really care for his sister you can salvage your relationship by telling him you would like to date his sister and ask her out.
If she was someone you just wanted to have sex with then you are a real jerk, and not a very good friend. you may have to tell him so that you can let it go.
talk to his sister it may be something she never wants mentioned again as well and will keep her mouth shut. if she tells him before you do though you are busted.

when the time is right, tell ur best friend about it...but if u tink that he would have a negative reactions, it's better to keep it to urself. u don wana ruin the friendship rite??
