McDonalds advertises the double cheeseburger for $1.00. The one around the corner charges $1.50 for the double cheeseburger between the hours of Midnight-5am. I found this out at 4am a couple of weekends ago after drinking 9 Long Island ice teas and got hungry. What if a person works the midnight shift and takes lunch between 2-4am? Is this discrimination of some sort?

I don't think it's price gouging I just think it's McDonald's taking advantage of their advantage. They know that the area they operate in probably have graveyard shift workers or clubs or just plain night-walkers. I find it a bit sleazy to raise the prices because of the time change but some would call it good business. Maybe they are making people pay for the convenience or they have to cover the cost of the shift differential for their employees. Some might say it's good business but I don't. Your cheese burger is $1.00 or its not. Make up your frakin mind already! Ya know? :o)

I think the night employees might have more special benefits, like free food? Or discounted by 50%?

Most stores like Kohl's or Mervyns allows the sale staff and any staff member to receive a employee discount.

They are a franchise and can offer different pricing within the rules. If you read the fine print on coupons it states " Offer only good at participating locations".

I usually just order from the dollar menu (if your McDonalds has one). It seems like the dollar menu items are reasonably priced, while the rest are over the top in cost.
