Can anyone tell us if the new terror law allows for US citizens to be detained as "enemy combatants" and so subject to it's parameters? Can anyone cite where "enemy combatant" is defined in the new law? thankyou

Under this new law, anyone, even US citizens, can be declared an "enemy combatant", simply for doing things like protesting what the Government is doing. The law talks about "giving aid and support to terrorists". That is such an open-ended definition that it will allow the Government to declare ANYONE who expresses opposition to the President and his policies to be declared an "enemy combatant". That includes anyone who "leaks" information to the press, about secret Government programs such as the NSA spying program or the secret CIA prisons in foreign countries.

Even if you think that Bush is a saint and would never abuse the power that he's been granted, that power has still been given to him, and to every President who might follow him.

This law is a direct attack upon the civil liberties of Americans. If we don't get this law repealed, and I mean IMMEDIATELY, we will live to regret it.

Enemy Combatant: A citizen of a foreign country, not displaying (or wearing) the uniform of the army of a foreign country...I think that part of the definition would exclude US citizens.

US citizens would probably be charged with treason and tried under federal law. As a US citizen the accused would be afforded all the rights as any other citizen.
