Back in the days of the cold war the Government actually provided plans. We now live in the era of the worlds largest library and plans are super easy to find on line. I listed a few below. Remember in most communities you still need a permit to build one, but they are easy to get.

hey - I grew up in the very early sixties doing 'duck and cover' exercises in grade school. There used to be pamphlets about building a home fallout shelter, I might even have a few somewhere from the EMO (Emergency Measures Organization). The notion of a home fallout shelter was a fantasy to start with. Just think - you have your own built in mechanism for coping with atomic attacks - just bend over, place your head between your knees, then shove your head up your @ss . Having achieved the blissful state of cranial-rectal inversion you are now impervious to the effects of any nuclear device.

I hope your friend is a successful general contractor, with lots of money and lots of hands-on construction know-how. I've never seen a reinforced concrete slab thicker than 18-24"--and it wasn't cheap or easy. And I would think you need more than 24". Hate to be the naysayer. Just pick a remote place to wait it out, upwind of as many potential targets as you can be.

I wonder if there still is a civil defense department or organization, they would have had them in the old days, maybe you could try homeland security.

If a nuclear bomb drops - you don't want to be left alive.

Check out the movie Threads and then tell me you want to be left alive.
