In the US, it's only a matter of dollars. Bill Gates has a dedicated T3 line running directly to his house. With the right router, you can install multiple DSL lines and combine the bandwidth. Even in the country, you can get satellite internet at 1.5Mbps. With enough space on your roof for the receivers, you could combine a dozen links; even a hundred. In short, you can get as much bandwidth as you can afford.

depends on how much you can afford.....

Other than that it depends on what is available in your area. Cable is usually the fastest, however it depends on what your provider offers. Also if you are in an area were Verizon offers FIOS then that will be the fastest.
