Congrats on the new mouse. I save everything cardboard, and build stuff out of it for the mice to play in. I.e., cereal boxes, beer carriers, cardboard egg cartons, paper towel tubes. Cut some holes in any of these, and put them in. I like to make "mazes" with these, and watch the mice find their way around. I also have some plastic modular toys with tubes and stuff that are easy to wash in a dishwasher. A wheel in a must, they use it all the time. Bird ladders and wooden branches can be used. I think, they appreciate variety, so I'm always changing things out in their cage. Don't forget the house for sleeping, fill it with toilet tissue, and change it often.

Whatever you put in there, try to remember what that thing was for. If it was originally used for food, it is safer, but many cardboard containers have inks and dies on them that are NOT food safe and were never intended to be consumed. Newspaper is something to avoid. Mice and rats do a lot of cleaning and any amount of moisture can release ink and that makes a mess fast. It has also been known to cause lethal ink poisoning, which is bad.
I think toilette paper tubes are a great plaything for most animals. I have worried about the glues, but I have raised generations of rats with no problem. My dogs have also enjoyed chewing on the paper tubes and I have not yet experienced an negative incident. You might also consider the tubes from wrapping paper as they are much longer you could cut them down and make your own mazes with them too.
A tiny dog biscuit can be a long term gnawing treat too. I liked giving those to my rats. A wad of grass might be fun for him too since it will bring in new outdoor smells, make noise, and he can chew on it if he feels like it. I think you should just try to keep things as natural as possible and try to avoid things that would be lethal if you ate them. Good luck!

Put some ladders in there for him to climb. If possible you could connect some tubes to his cage. Give him a little mouse hut or something small for him to sleep in. Make sure he has an exercise wheel to run on. You could also put in a salt or mineral block for him to lick. Have lots of stuff for him to chew on like wood blocks or something like that.

I just put a toilet paper tube in my hamsters cage. She crawled through it then tore it up and made a bed out of it. Gave her something to do. Make sure she has an exercise wheel!!!!!

Well...water and food is basic. Try something to gnaw on...pet stores sell bits of wood and things like that to keep their teeth down. You can always browse for other rodent "toys" if you really want to put stuff in there.
