Hi
Let it go. Really . Dont worry about the missing tasil thing, it will likely grow back.
The best thing you can do for it , is to let it go where you found it or near by.. in some bushes or plant areas.
If you want a lizard as a pet.. buy one that was bred for captivity. They will do much better.. The wild one will almost surely die if you keep him.
Good Luck

Keeping a pet lizard requires a heated "rock" (buy it at a pet store) or heating pad in part of the cage because the lizard has to move on and off the warm spot to regulate its body temperature. Depending on the species, there may be other requirements. Most of them eat bugs. They eat them whole and alive. Except for babies, they don't eat every day. You can buy crickets and mealworms at a pet store.
The tale came off when the lizard was escaping a predator; this is a defense mechanism of lizards. It's okay.
My recommendation is, let it go. Keep it a couple days first if you like; make sure it has water to drink.

Lizards eat very different things. They can eat crickets, veggies, or even baby mice! If it is a wild lizard, I would suggest that you just let him back outside. They do well without their tales in the wild. Sometimes they lose their tales to get away from predators. If it is a lizard that someone bought at a pet store, I could contact a vet about what it should eat.

Wild caught lizards are usually full of parasites. While they will survive with them in the wild, the stresses of captivity normally cause the lizard to succumb. When you take the lizard to the reptile vet to get it treated for parasites they will probably identify it for you and tell you what to feed it.
My advice - look at it for a day or two and then let it go. If you want a pet lizard buy one that has grown up in captivity.

What kind of lizard is it?
Some, like here in Florida, called anoles, just eat little bugs, flies, roaches, etc. They are beneficial in your garden and great to observe. If the tail comes off they can grow a new one.

Some lizards when a predator is attacking they can break there tail off so the predator will stay with the tail and the lizard can get away. So just release him and his tail will most likely grow back and he will be fine.

Mine eats mealworms and crickets, but you should let that one go. If you want a pet lizard you should buy one. What kind of lizard is it anyway? Is it a gecko?

First, it depends on the type of Lizard you have.
Second, wildlife does better wild. Chances are it will die in captivity.
Please let it go!
