Start by setting the equation equal to 0.
x^2 - 2x - 195 = 0
From there, factor and you get:
(x - 15)(x + 13) = 0
Thats simplified, if you need to solve for x:
x - 15 = 0 or x + 13 = 0
x = 15 or x = -13

Way 1: put it all on one side and factor:

x^2 - 2x - 195 = 0

195 = 3*5*13, from inspection =13*15 (difference = 2)
so this is (x - 15)(x + 13) = 0, so x = -13 or x = 15.

Other way, if there is no nice factorization: use the quadratic formula. This always works, but can have some nasty calculations.
x = (-b +- sqrt(b^2 - 4ac))/2a.

In this case x = (2 +- sqrt(4 - 4*1*(-195)))/2 = (2 +- sqrt(784)))/2 = (2 +- 28)/2 = 15 or -13

First rewrite the equation as
x^2 - 2x -195 =0
195 can be expressed as factors 15 and 13 and observe that their difference (15 -13) = 2, the middle term
x^2 - 2x -195 can be written as
x^2 -15x +13x - 195 = 0
x(x -15) + 13(x - 15) = 0
I hope you grasped this step!
(x-15)(x+13) = 0
The solutions are obtained by equating each of thefactors in the brackets to zero.
x -15 = 0
x =15
x + 13 = 0
x = -13

let rewrite the equation :
x^2 - 2x = 195
1) subtract 195 from each side making the equation :
x^2 - 2x - 195
2) set this equation to zero as in :
x^2 - 2x - 195 = 0
factor this
since I could not find any factors that when multiplied = 195 and whem sumed /different. this expression is does not have a solution

ack your making me think back

195=x^2-2x
I think it's simplified, or do you have to solve for x?
