Try pouring straight bleach down the drain, about 1/2 a gallon. Let it sit for 30 minutes then flush well with warm water. Or if you are going to the store anyway get some liquid plumber and pour it down the drain and follow instructions.

The BEST thing you can do, and it's stuff you probably have around the house, so it won't cost you anything.
1) Take some baking soda, and pour it down the drain. Not too much, about 1/3 of the box.
2) Pour vinegar down over it, a little at a time (maybe about 1/2 a cup). It will make a LOT of bubbles. And don't breathe it in. Breathing in vinegar fumes isn't fun!
3) Add more vinegar, little by little until all the baking soda is gone. Altogether, you'll have used maybe 2 cups of vinegar.
4) Pour boiling water, about a kettle full, down the drain.
5) It's unclogged!

Well, I have three women in the house and the way I remove the monthly hair ball is to put tape over the vents on the overflow vent and plunge the drain with a standard plunger whole running hot water in the tub, then follow up with a little drain cleaner. Remove the tape and settle in for a soak!

This is something really simple to fix. If you go the local supermarket and head into the Cleaning/Detergent aisle and purchase a bottle of Draino. It is in a red plastic bottle. If you cannot locate it ask a Sales Assistant.
Follow the directions on the bottle. Very easy to use.
The other idea was to use a plunger to try and loosen it up in the pipes.

Liquid Plumber works well in standing water. Drano Max for if no water present. Or you hire a plumber and deduct the cost from your rent. Better tell your "super" first that you are going to hire a plumber. One better than that is to call the department of health. Standing water is a health hazard.

I use the generic brand (from walmart) 10 minute hair clog remover, and it worked wonders for a completely stopped up tub. Nothing else i did would work, but this fixed it within its 10 minutes!

First use tweezers to pull hair out of the drain, this seems to be the number one cause. You should be able to pull enough out to unclog the drain the use drano.
