I have no stats, but I do have some info:
Ignore whatever anyone says about 100m runners. They can do 100m in sub ten seconds, but that time starts from when they are stationary. The 200m times will give you closer to top speed (as they are at top speed for longer), but the factor is still in there. Based on what someone else said about Michael Johnson's 200m record, it must be humanly possible to go over 40mph. Although he blatantly didn't do it in just over 10 seconds, it must be nearly 20 seconds it took him.

If you are Canadian and take the occasional non recreational drug then you can attain a speed of just in excess of 28mph in an Olympic 100m final - the down side is that you will have your medal taken away from you a few days later.
