This is a truly excellent question.

In my opinion there is no direct way that we can influence China. The only way we can work toward the non-proliferation of WMD is to sedulously advance the cause of human rights. The 'soft power' that results from such a policy would be exceedingly hard to measure, but nonetheless amass the political capital and legitimacy and international prestige that would lead to greater international agreement on peace agendas.

So long as humanity wars against itself on an individual basis by sacrificing the rights of the individual (by countenancing tortures and the death penalty, etc.), wars will continue.

Well, we could stop purchasing anything that's made in China, but that would take a huge sacrifice since so many things are made there these days. Other than that, I don't know how we could force them to support sanctions. Just about everyone would have to boycott goods imported from China to make an impact, and I don't think that would happen.

I like how you all take "UN" and seemingly replace it with "US" (and automatically assume that you are in the right). Personally, I think China will support the sanctions. With the security risks, I doubt that they could afford not to when they have WMDs sitting on their back doorstep. China will heed to the will of the security council on this one.

China laughs in the face of America and the world every time they are asked to do even the most menial of tasks. My point is they just do not care what you or I think and I do not think anything is going to change that.

Why bother when America is arming Israel to its teeth. so let china do the same for N Korea. Lets have a competition for once. Why should America dominate the wmd club.

Next time one of our representatives goes over there, make him bring a small child with him. Small, innocent child... and then ask China to join...

Though they might get pissed off cause they have YET another population growth problem.
