Educational values and our schools will always be a focus of politics. For one thing, the people recognize it as a very important issue, so politicians will jump on the band wagon of bleeding hearts every chance they get... More importantly though it is the people who we elect that make the final decision on what is taught how it is taught, and where it is taught. They also distribute our funds in whatever way best suits their needs ( so long as the people don't realize it's not benefiting them) which means the standard of American education or lack thereof is greatly dependent on the politicians we put in office to take care of such things...
People view public education as a joke, because it is. That's not say that other forms of American education are any better, but still. Americanized education, or teaching in the US is limited to that which trains our kids to be flag wagging little morons like the rest of the nation. We can't even instill our sorry American excuses for learning in these facilities because they are an environment of hostilities and social interaction more than they are schools, and on top of that we've become so obsessed with being the best that whenever we slip up, we simply lower the standards so we don't have to deal with the fact that we are stupid! Then if a kid seems like he may burden the statistics, we slide him through and graduate him/her so we don't have to deal with it and they never even have to earn it! We graduate morons and wonder why we're falling apart. What is truly the point of grading our kids in academics, with politically correct screw-ups who invent sensitivities and whine for the dumb@sses who can't get out of the rut they've dug or had dug for them. In a system where quality is unimportant and quantity and presentation are the main concern of a country drowning in it's own sh*t, how can we possibly pretend there's nothing wrong with what we have done and we are doing now? The reason folks is because Americans are notoriously stupid arrogant pigs who are incapable of branching beyond themselves and their egos, even as they pave the way for their destruction, they turn their noses up so as not to catch wind of the stench of their own atrocities, while they boast their superiority to a world that can and will crush them when they are of no benefit to them any longer. As we destroy ourselves we lash out at the petty social issues of foreign nations because the puny American intellect can understand or fathom, frivolous, insignificant idiosyncrasies.
To say that all Americans are idiots, that's a bit much... At least an idiot knows how and when to keep his mouth shut! He has developed a sense of when he's too deep, and knows that if he speaks it will hold no merit, because he doesn't know what he is talking about. An idiot also has the capacity to learn. I would not want to insult the idiots of this world by calling them all Americans

The fact that is failing makes it a BIG political issue. Graduation rates are down in most parts of the country and kids are just not as smart as they used to be and state mandated tests prove this point. Since the Public Education System is a publically taxpayer funded program the fact that it is failing means many people have the right to be angered and ask the important question, "Where is my money going?"

Good education makes a good person. Only illiterates like Bush make an issue out of it. It speaks volume for a country who elects an illiterate to be the president.

Because the empty-headed liberals who have controlled education in this country for the last fifty years have made our public schools a joke. Soon they'll be turning out drooling drug-addicted morons who can't find their butts with both hands. O well at least they'll be ready for college.

apparently the Republican propaganda is in full force.. in fact, we have record numbers of students taking college classes in high school... so that they are halfway done with college when they get out of high school...
kids are learning a lot... but there are some kids that just aren't cut ouf for school... there always have been... the main difference seems to be that people are trying to force them to be school kids, where we just let them go in the past...
MANY more people are taking tests like the SAT and are scoring higher on them... so I don't know where "lower test scores" that someone else mentioned are coming from?

Tell me now which issue is non political. Each issue has a political, economical, religious, moral, racial undertone. Education is no different.
