I wish gas was $1.29/gal.

12.8 + 10.2 would be the total amount of gallons. (23 gallons)

23 x 1.29= 29.67...and with the proper units, $29.67.

Cost/gallon of gas = $1.29
Total quantity of gas bought for the Houston to San Antonio and at San Antonio = (12.8 + 10.2)gallons = 23 gallons
Total expenditure on gas = 23*$1.29 = $29 67c
