Our society would crumble, or at least become a manageable size if we didn't have the refrigerator. Most Americans don't even have a notion of how to preserve food without freezing. They would starve, or roam the world in search of food. By force, or by manipulation. Plus, there are very few small farms left, with which to barter with. It would result in the deaths of millions. Added to that, the effects of unavoidable illness, from contaminated food, would make a big contribution to the funeral pyre.

My dishwasher. I saw how quickly washing dishes aged my mothers hands and vowed never to do dishes. I can always take my clothes to a laundry but I don't think there are places to take your dirty dishes!

The toilet. It is a real nuisance to go out in the woods with a shovel.
