Not just 18 wheelers either.
This is coming from "out there" but I just read an article in Money magazine all about how the European Diesel car trend will inevitably spread to the US. Right now the "hybrid" is the hot ticket here, but the fact is that Diesels perform better and use less fuel than even hybrids. Especially if you consider passenger and cargo space, and tank range. My point is that the Diesel is here to stay for a long time.
Work on Harleys for fun if you want to.

You'll find that wrentching on motorcycles is much more rewarding. You will get to spend time being paid to test ride bikes! You can be paid as much as $45.00 an hour flat rate, meaning that if the book says a job takes 3 hours and you finish it in 2 you still get paid for 3. The parts are lighter and easier to work with and you'll be the envy of your nieghborhood. Don't break your back being a diesel mech, a motorcycle tech. is the way to go. I've done both. PS you can still get medical benefits 401k and the like through the bike dealerships. If you have any more questions feel free to contact me.

OK hears the real deal, MMI is great but Harley riders as a whole are very particular about their bike, I know I'm one. Work is a little slim in the winter time with motorcycles & you can seriously be hurt test riding a customers bike. I have for the last several years been a big truck mechanic. With trucks when the tempariture gets real hot or real cold that's when your really busy.
